Brothers' Open - June 2019
On 13th and 14th June 2019, Chislehurst Golf club hosted the 41st Annual Brothers' Open competition. The green staff prepared the course beautifully after some extreme weather on Monday and Wednesday almost put a dampener on the whole event so many thanks go to John Hunniset and his team. Regular members and guests paid tribute to the state of the course and the qualifying round on Thursday morning proved challenging.
After the qualifier, the top 8 pairings based on foursomes stableford points went through to the main event. To find the champions, the format in the remaining matches switches to match play and in the quarter finals, the Avery brothers played against the Goodins, the Seagers went up against previous Chislehurst members the Matthews brothers and in the lower side of the draw, the Halls took on the Nagstrups. Last years champions, Tobi and Edward Andrews, took on the new recruits of Michael and Christopher Ayers. We lost a few Chislehurst hopefuls early on this year but the Ayers and Nagstrups went through to the semi final on one side of the draw and on the other, the Avery brothers and the Matthews got through for a place in the last 4.
On Friday morning the semi finals were played and it proved to be 2nd time lucky for both the Avery and Nagstrup brothers being their second appearance at this event. The show was set for new names to go on the trophies but who would be victorious? With a little bit of extra experience on the course, the Nagstrups managed to win the championship so a huge congratulations to Andreas and his brother, Johan, who only just made the event after flight delays from Copenhagen. We hope they enjoyed the victory and look forward to seeing them again to defend the title in 2020.
Next years event takes place on the 18th and 19th June so any male members, if you have a brother who plays golf with an active recognised handicap why not join us for a couple of days of competitive golf and family bonding. We hope to see you on the course next year.
